Sustainability

At Cava & Hotel Mastinell, we have a strong commitment to the environment

The footprint we leave is the legacy that future generations will inherit; hence, our ambition is to create a sustainable ecosystem by collaborating with the local, social, and economic development of Penedés. Responsible tourism is essential to continue enjoying the essence of our land for many more years, with guests themselves integrating into the rural environment.

At Cava & Hotel Mastinell, we make significant efforts to reduce our ecological footprint, and in addition to having a low visual impact, we have many tools to minimize our environmental impact as much as possible:

  • Organic farming
  • Manual harvesting
  • Solar panels
  • Biomass boiler
  • Self-management of resources like water
  • Waste treatment and reduction
  • LED lighting

Responsible and outdoor activities

With all this, we invite travelers to immerse themselves in a different experience, getting to know the environmental, cultural, and social surroundings of Penedés, and encouraging their awareness and responsible behavior. Thanks to this, our visitors can enjoy activities such as vineyard visits, winery tours, vinotherapy and cavatherapy, or the gastronomy of the 0 km gastronomic space.

Local products

Local products are the main value we promote, both in our cavas and wines made from grapes of organic vineyards in the region. Similarly, we do so in our gastronomic space En Rima, with gastronomy made from locally sourced products. With all this, at Cava & Hotel Mastinell we try to do our part to promote and maintain the culture and tradition of our territory, of our land. We do this by cultivating many of our products, which will be the stars of our dishes (vegetables, greens, and fruits), in our own garden located near the vineyards.

Manual harvesting

Due to our vineyard type and our commitment to the environment and sustainability, we harvest our grapes manually. Surrounded by a great team of harvesters, we collect each bunch one by one with special attention and care, ensuring the fruit is in its best condition to make high-quality wines and cavas.

Pest control

Our vineyards are tended by hand; our mission is to protect them sustainably, respecting our environment and ensuring biological balance. For pest control, we manually place pheromone diffusers on the vine. This way, we flood the environment with the sexual pheromone that females use to attract males. This leads to male disorientation, preventing fertilisation and subsequent egg-laying, which significantly reduces the growth rate of the most feared pest in our country: the grape bunch moth (Lobesia Botrana).

Tourism sustainability certification

At Cava & Hotel Mastinell, we have the Biosphere certification that endorses our commitment to sustainability. Thus, we promote responsible tourism that ensures visitor provisions by valuing the conservation of the area’s resources.

Biosphere is a private system of voluntary and independent certification, based on the principles of sustainability and continuous improvement, with the aim of initiating the path towards a new model of tourism.

Through the fulfillment of a series of requirements, it offers companies in the sector the opportunity to design products and services characteristic of a new non-aggressive tourism model, meeting the current needs of customers and users without compromising future generations.

This certification ensures a proper long-term balance between the economic, socio-cultural, and environmental dimensions of a destination, providing significant benefits for the entity itself, society, and the environment.
